Bareboat
& Catamaran Charters FAQs
What is included
in charter fee?
All charter& berth taxes, transitlog, autopilot, end
cleaning, base mooring fees, gas & water, bed linen
equipments, dinghy with outboard.
What
qualifications do I need to charter a sailing yacht ?
It depends where you want to charter but, generally,
relevant experience is more important than paper
qualifications. Certificates are useful. You should have
sailing experience equivalent to Day Skipper standard, i.e.
basic navigation, sailing and boat handling skills, on a
similar sized yacht and will be assisted by at least one
competent crew If you have no certification, a short sailing
resume, extract of your log, yacht club reference, or similar
documents to verify your sailing competence may be required.
Even on flotilla you have to be able to skipper your own yacht
so again you should be Day Skipper standard. Some port
authorities in the Mediterranean - currently Majorca,
Tenerife, Croatia and Greece - do require an internationally
recognised certificate of competence for the skipper, e.g. RYA
International Certificate of Competence or Day Skipper
Practical. Greece also requires a certificate for 1 crew
member, e.g. RYA Competent Crew, although a short resume of
crewing experience will usually suffice. For bareboat motor
yacht charters an international certificate of competence,
e.g. RYA ICC is required by the port authorities in Greece,
Croatia and Majorca. If you don't have the experience to
charter bareboat we can recommend and help you book sailing
courses to get your Day Skipper qualification or to get the
family up to Competent Crew Standard
What is the
security deposit ?
All Boating Turkey vessel is comprehensively insured,
including third Party cover, beyond a deductible excess
figure. This amount is published in the price list for every
yacht in the fleet, under Security Deposit. You must indemnify
the company against such possible loss. The Refundable Security
Deposit is held against the yachts insurance excess and, if
there is no damage or loss to the yacht or her equipment, this
figure is returned to you. Normally, Boating Turkey will
refund the Security Deposit immediately at the end of the
charter. However, if any damage and/or loss is extensive, the
deposit or appropriate proportion will be returned, if
applicable, as soon as possible after full assessment of
rectifying such damage or loss has been made
Do I need a
professionel skipper ?
Boating Turkey is in the position to select, recommend and
hire on your behalf a professional skipper for as many days as
you wish. Even if you have experienced sailing, you may still
require the services of a professional skipper to make your
cruise more relaxing and benefit from the skippers' local
knowledge. There is a set daily fee ( 100 Euro per day ) for the
professional skipper regardless of the number of people on
board. Please remember that the professional skipper needs to
be provided with his own cabin, as he is obliged to sleep on
board.
Which days of the
week can I begin and end my charter ?
Bareboat and Catamaran charters begin and end on Saturdays
for multiples of seven days. In the low season period
depending on yacht availability this may be flexible.
Shall I embark and
disembark from different bases ?
This may be possible, but you will be charged an additional
cost. The cost varies according to the distance between the
two bases. Please ask for the one way supplement fees.
I have a problem
with the engine/sails/electric equipment and cannot sail on.
What now?
This shouldn't happen on any sailing holiday, but
unfortunately, on rare occassions, it does. Please contact
with the base of company as soon as possible, so that the
problem can be taken care of in an expedient manner and you'll
back in holiday mode in as short a time as possible. If these
problems are not caused by yourselves, you may be entitled to
compensation, either in the form of a refund or free sailing
time - on this holiday or a later one. I am at sea and in need
of assistance. What do I do? The safety of crew and yacht is
your first priority, so if necessary use the VHF on channel 16
to ask for assistance. However, if at all possible, try to
contact the base of company . Here you will find experienced
sailors who know how to handle an emergency.

Can we sail to
Greek Islands ?
Yes, of course but to enter Greek waters you have to follow
the procedure below: You must have the appropriate visa's to
enter greece. The yacht must check out of Turkey from a main
custom port and check into Greece in a custom port. When you
want to leave Greek waters you must check out of Greece and
check back into Turkey at a main port. Please note that you
have to buy a new Turkish transit log. In case of the above

Do you arrange
Hotel & Villa booking ?
Yes, We do. Please inform us with the necessary
information.
Is this a suitable
type of holiday for children ?
Most definitly ! Some of our clients sailed with children
from 7 months of age and upwards, have had clients sailing with
even younger ones. Parents have three worries : Safety,
seasickness, and that children will become bored. Our
experience tells that they are never bored, seasickness is
rarely a problem and can be dealt with in different way, and
with the necessary safety precatuions, few things are safer
than sailing. But please do not hesitate to ask for our
recommendation, we will help make this a worry free experience
for parents and children alike.
Is this a suitable
type of holiday for a disabled person ?
It is not recommended for a person who has serious mobility
problems.
Will I experience
seasickness ?
This situation is hard to predict. In fact you may be the
best judge based on previous experience. If you are worried
about seasickness check with your local pharmacist for special
medication before you leave home. If you are new to yacht
chartering, let the crew know; they will make your trip as
comfortable as possible by recommending itinenaries in
protected waters and keeping tabs on changing weather
conditions.
Is there anything
special I need to bring ?
This may sound strange, but the most common problems on
sailing holidays are related to what many come for: The Sun!
Please do bring (and wear!) adequate protecion for eyes and
skin. As for sunscreen, while sailing you should use twice the
factor you would on a holiday ashore, due to the reflection
for the water surface and the fact that the breeze will make
it very easy to get sunburn without even noticing.
